One day at Etex Roodekop, I faced an unexpected situation that shifted my focus from business tasks to personal care. A teammate appeared unwell, showing signs of nausea and discomfort. I offered him my bin, thinking it might help. As his condition didn't improve, I asked our IT Manager to check on him in the men's bathroom. When they returned, the teammate looked even worse. Without hesitation, I decided to take him to the nearest hospital.
The drive to the hospital and the time waiting there until he was checked and admitted was very different from our usual day at the office. It was after hours when I left the hospital, and the next day was a public holiday. Yet, ensuring Willem's well-being was my priority before heading home.
This incident taught me the significance of empathy and attentiveness in the workplace. It is essential to be aware of our teammates' well-being, understanding that sometimes, the most critical support we can offer is simply being there for them in times of need.
