One day, I visited the so-called Tunnel of Life in Sarajevo. This tunnel saved entire families who did not leave it for months, even years, in an attempt to survive. I talked to a woman who had spent more than a year underground with her two young children and took care of them as best she could.

Listening to the fight for survival and the horror of war makes you cry. It somehow now also makes me think about COVID-19. A bit like during a war, we now have to protect ourselves and our families, and take shelter. We complain about all the barriers that have been put in place during the coronavirus crisis: quarantine, confinement at home, lack of freedom of movement. But, being at home is not the same as being in a war bunker. In the hope of overcoming this worldwide crisis, it makes us stronger, forces us to reinvent ourselves, look at things differently. Let us all do so as one team.

Un día visité el llamado Túnel de la Vida en Sarajevo. Este túnel salvó a familias enteras que no lo abandonaron durante meses, incluso años, en un intento por sobrevivir. Hablé con una mujer que había pasado más de un año bajo tierra con sus dos hijos pequeños y los cuidó lo mejor que pudo.

Escuchar la lucha por la supervivencia y el horror de la guerra te hace llorar. De alguna manera ahora también me hace pensar en COVID-19. Un poco como durante una guerra, ahora tenemos que protegernos a nosotros mismos y a nuestras familias, y refugiarnos. Nos quejamos de todas las barreras que se han puesto durante la crisis del coronavirus: cuarentena, confinamiento en casa, falta de libertad de movimiento. Pero estar en casa no es lo mismo que estar en un búnker de guerra. Con la esperanza de superar esta crisis mundial, nos hace más fuertes, nos obliga a reinventarnos, a mirar las cosas de otra manera. Hagámoslo todos como un solo equipo.
