Microtherm installs new silos in Belgium - 18/12/2013

Special sizes require special measures.

The silos will house large amounts of microporous silica, the main material to manufacture high performance insulation products and were transported over water from Genk to Temse. Once lifted from the boat and put on the truck in Temse on Thursday noon, the new silos were transported by exceptional road haulage to the site of Microtherm in Sint-Niklaas. A crane was installed to place the silos next to the existing one on the Microtherm site.

Each silo is 7 metres in diameter and 43 metres long.  It weighs 18 tons and has a storage capacity of 1200 m³.

An ambitious plan

In October, Etex announced a total investment of 12 million euro for the Sint-Niklaas plant, spread over four years. The two new silos are part of a 4.5 milion euro investment plan in the subsidiary this year. The silos will allow increasing the production capacity. A more flexible manufacturing and automatic production processes will enable Microtherm to meet this growing demand and scale up the sales.
