"Ten years ago, I travelled from Chile to Argentina with Philippe Rainero, at that time head of Etex there. We set off in a rental car from Santiago and crossed the Andes to get to Argentina. Leaving Chile, we stopped in no man's land between the Chilean and Argentinian borders to take a few snapshots of the Knauf Gypsum Quarry. As we approached the Argentinian border, I realised my passport had disappeared.
We drove back and stopped exactly where we had parked to take the photos. No passport… I started imagining myself trying to explain to an Argentinian customs officer how I, a Frenchman, could have left Chile without a visa. Then Philippe began to toss leaves into the air (it was pretty windy), and follow them. Crossing the road, we came to some scrubland where we found the document visitors are given on entering Chile and which you are supposed to keep in your passport. Continuing in the same direction, we finally found my passport, at least 50 metres away from where the car was parked!
That night, we celebrated with what felt like the best bottle of wine in the world.
